Our 1st Annual Rock the Block Was a Great Success!
A diverse group of 66 excited volunteers with an incredible variety of skills joined Habitat on Friday, June 9 and Saturday, June 10 at Rancho Feliz Mobile Home Park located in the city of Rohnert Park to help 14 families with minor home repairs.
Planning the 2-day community event started back in October 2022 over a cup of coffee with RP councilmember, Gerard Giudice. We both wished to develop a partnership between Habitat and RP in what Habitat does best; help low-income families live in safe and decent housing. After a couple more conversations, Rancho Feliz Mobile Home Park was suggested. And so, the planning began.
During the next six months the Habitat Aging in Place team and Rancho Feliz management selected 14 homes to receive minor home repairs and five unsafe fences to be replaced. The event budget was developed, donated advertising seeking sponsors and volunteers ran in the Press Democrat, and the community came together strong and willing to help families receive a hand up.
The days were long and tiring, but the smiles and conversations amongst everyone were pure joy about what was accomplished with 66 rocking volunteers. And yes, the volunteers wanted to know if there would be a 2nd Annual Rock the Block. You bet!
“Volunteers do not necessarily have the time; they just have the heart.”
