Donate a Home or Land

Do you have land or a home you want to donate? Do you believe that hard-working families deserve affordable, stable housing? Even in Sonoma County, where the views are as breathtaking as housing costs? If you want to donate your land or house to charity, Habitat for Humanity can maximize your generosity by turning your donation into affordable housing for a deserving family. We screen our applicants to ensure they have the income and employment stability to be successful homeowners. To make sure they are fully invested, they must contribute 300 hours of labor to the construction of their home. For most of our families, helping to build their future home with volunteers and professionals is a joyful, empowering experience!

How can you help?

Your property donation greatly reduces cost and provides affordable mortgages to our homeowners. Your contribution builds a stronger community and is also tax-deductible, usually at current market value. A donation to us may also allow you to avoid costs and fees associated with a private sale. Additionally, you might be able to carry over the deduction for up to five years. When you donate a house to charity with Habitat for Humanity you can create tax benefits for yourself and secure affordable housing for deserving families!

What Kind Of House Is Best?

What is the best kind of house or property to donate? Often, the best property is an existing home that requires renovation. Undeveloped properties that are zoned for residential development are also excellent. Properties with lower building costs, such as those near utilities or with completed pre-build tests, assist us in keeping projects on budget. We will work closely with you to figure out whether your property might be a good fit. For more information about how to donate land or a home that needs renovation, contact at info@habitatsoco.org.
